Roskomnadzor extended Twitter slowdown

Roskomnadzor postponed blocking Twitter, but extended the slowdown in the download speed of the social network until May 15.

Afterthe beginning of traffic slowdown, the social network changed the approach to moderation on the territory of the Russian Federation and began to remove content prohibited at the legislative level.

The third part of the prohibited publications has already been deleted by the network moderation service, and Roskomnadzor has so far refused a more stringent measure – completely blocking the resource.

Twitter's speed limit will last until May 15th.Roskomnadzor hopes that this time is sufficient to bring the content in line with Russian legislation. Otherwise, the department threatens to completely block the resource on the territory of the country, without a court order.

Aggressive pressure from Roskomnadzor on Twitterstarted on March 10th. For more than three years, the platform ignored the regulator’s demands to remove content that promotes ideas prohibited in the Russian Federation. The slowdown in work, the threat of blocking and fines totaling 8.9 million rubles led to the activation of content moderation.
