Roskomnadzor takes drastic measures to slow down Twitter after platform failsremove content at the request of the Russian authorities.
Since 2017, the regulator has required tough measures from Twittercensorship and removal of content “inducing minors to commit suicide, containing child pornography” and information about drugs. According to Roskomnadzor, the platform did not comply with the requirements.
As a final warning, access tothe service will be limited from March 10 - download speed will be reduced by 100% for mobile devices and by 50% for landline devices. If you continue to ignore the requirements of Russian legislation, Twitter faces a complete blocking of the resource.
To limit the speed of a resourceRoskomnadzor intends to use TSPU – technical means of countering threats – installed by telecom operators. The DPI technology used allows you to separate the traffic of a specific service from the general flow and reduce its speed, while VPN technology is powerless.
Not only Twitter was slowed down, but also domains containing the combination “t.co” – Reddit.com, Microsoft.com.
On the morning of March 10, the website of Roskomnadzor itself and a number ofgovernment websites – The Kremlin, the State Duma, the government and the Prime Minister – noted a malfunction. According to the official statement, a failure occurred in the operation of Rostelecom equipment and was quickly eliminated.
