Lawyer of Alexander Vinnik: “The Greek court will decide on appeals by June 30”

Alexander Vinnik's lawyer Zoe Konstantopoulou said that the Supreme Administrative Court of Greece will acceptdecision on appeals of the illegality of Vinnik’s extradition to France until June 30.

On Friday, the court held a hearing on twoappeals concerning the forced removal of Vinnik to France from the Greek hospital, despite the poor health of the prisoner. One appeal was filed by the prisoner's family, and the second by Vinnik himself through lawyers. The court considered both appeals as one thing and gave time to the defense of Vinnik to submit all the necessary documents on these appeals by June 16.

Greek lawyer Vinnika Zoe Constantopoulou (ZoeKonstantopoulou) noted that the defense requested a postponement of the meeting, since lawyer Timothy Musatov, who defended Vinnik for the past several years, was tragically killed. This event gave rise to many problems for lawyers due to the lack of access to important documents for the protection of Vinnik - they are in the dossier, which Timofey Musatov personally kept.

However, the court decided not to defer considerationappeals, since on June 30 the term of office of the chairman of the court ends. The same applies to some judges, so if the trial is postponed, it will be transferred to a different composition of the court, which can significantly slow down the process. Konstantopoulou is sure that the decision on appeals will be made before the end of the month, before the retirement of the chairman of the court.

Vinnik was arrested in Greece in 2017. In January, after his extradition to France, Vinnik was formally charged with money laundering through the now defunct BTC-e cryptocurrency exchange and other illegal actions. Earlier it was reported that after the trial, Vinnik would be transported back to Greece, and then to the United States, where similar charges would be brought against him. Only after this can Vinnik be sent to Russia.
