Russian Foreign Ministry Provides Additional Information to Greece for Extradition of Alexander Vinnik

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent new arguments to the Greek government, which shouldfacilitate the extradition of Alexander Vinnik to the Russian Federation.

In addition to Russia, Vinnik’s extradition was requestedUS and French departments. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized that international standards on extradition should be respected.

“There is a major request for extradition, giveninternational legal provisions on the priority of expulsion of a country of citizenship. There is a dialogue between the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation. Today we have provided additional arguments, including taking into account the changes that have been made to the criminal code, to the Greek Code of Criminal Procedure, in connection with which, in our estimation, there are no legal grounds even to consider the possibility of extradition to a country other than Russia ", - said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Also yesterday, a hearing was held in the Supreme CourtGreece regarding extradition of Alexander Vinnik. As Vinnik’s lawyer Zoe Konstantopoulou said, the parties must provide additional documentation until Tuesday, and then a decision will be made. However, the timing of the publication of this decision remained unknown.

This summer, Vinnik, who was detained two years ago on charges of laundering billions of dollars through the BTC-e exchange, said the Greek judicial system was completely untenable.
