Ethereum core developer confirms hard fork date

The head of the Ethereum Foundation development team, Peter Szilagyi, confirmed that the upcoming Istanbul hard forkwill take place on December 4th.

On November 7, Siladzhi announced on his blog thatnetwork update will occur when reaching 9069000 block. He provided node operators using the Geth client with a link to a maintenance release created to start initializing a hard fork.

Recall that the Constantinople network update took place in February this year. Istanbul will be the last update before the final transition to Ethereum 2.0, which will be called Berlin.

Rumor has it that the main distinguishing featureBerlin will be a transition to a new algorithm called “Programmatic proof-of-work” or ProgPoW, which will significantly weaken the position of miners using ASIC equipment.
