Venezuela will give cryptocurrencies to civil servants and pensioners for Christmas

The Venezuelan government has announced that this week all public sector employees and retirees will be able to get some Petro national cryptocurrency, free of oil, for free.

According to President Nicolas Maduro, the size of the holiday bonus will be equal to half the Petro token, or about $ 30 at the local rate.

To participate in the national airdrop to citizensyou need to register in the government mobile application PetroApp, through which you can pay for goods and services, as well as make transfers.  Currentlyit is the only platform supporting national cryptocurrency.

Gift Petro can be used at your own discretion, which means that citizens can also exchange it for Bitcoin, Lightcoin or Dash supported by the application.

The country's authorities expect the stock to encourage people to use digital assets more often. Since the minimum wage in the country is less than $ 10, many are interested in receiving a gift.

In addition to the airdrop, Maduro said he would allocate more than 500 thousand Petro from his personal stock to support city and regional governments.

The Venezuelan government is actively promoting its cryptocurrency, starting at the end of 2018 to pay part of pensions and salaries in it, and since July all branches of the Bank of Venezuela began to accept Petro.
