Venezuela will give pensioners a Christmas cash bonus in digital currency Petro

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced his intention to “donate” pensioners of the country with a Christmas bonusin the national cryptocurrency Petro. This was reported on the Twitter page of the local news agency Venepress.

Note that this is not the first time Maduro has taken such a step.

The release of this digital asset falls onFebruary last year. Since its inception, the Petro has raised concerns among foreign observers. In late August 2018, the cryptocurrency was described as a “gimmick” backed by a centralized and indebted entity. At the same time, the national cryptocurrency generally has support from the local government.

Thus, a deputy of the National ConstituentAssembly of Venezuela Francisco Torrealba said that the country is undergoing great changes, and Maduro, through the creation of Petro, is making a “great contribution” to its development. Then he said that “soon everyone will switch to this currency (Petro).”
