Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announces intention to “bestow” retirees with a Christmas prize in the national cryptocurrency Petro. This was reported on the Twitter page of the local news agency Venepress.
Note that this is not the first time Maduro has taken such a step.
The issue of this digital asset falls onFebruary last year. From the very beginning, Petro has been a concern for foreign observers. At the end of August 2018, cryptocurrency was described as a “trick” supported by a centralized and debt-burdened legal entity. At the same time, the national cryptocurrency as a whole has the support of the local government.
So, a deputy of the National ConstituentMeeting of Venezuela Francisco Torrealba said that great changes are taking place in the country, and Maduro, through the creation of Petro, is making a “big contribution” to its development. Then he said that "soon everyone will switch to this currency (Petro)."
