Arizona State University Plans to Launch NFT and Metaverse

Arizona State University has filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for registration of trademarks related to collectible tokens and the metaverse.

These include the name of the university and the name and logo of its American football team, the Sun Devils. Judging by these applications, the institution has big plans for development in the field of metaverses and Web3, thanks to which students will be able to interact with each other and with teachers.

Specifically, Arizona State University (ASU)intends to issue non-fungible tokens in the form of tickets to various internal events, as well as images of campus attractions. It is also planned to release NFTs that depict fragments of significant sporting events associated with the university. Regarding the metaverse, the University of Arizona is ready to organize training sessions in a virtual environment.

ASU is considered one of the largestU.S. public universities by enrollment, with more than 77,000 students enrolled in the fall 2021 semester. About 57,000 people were studying remotely, which may have prompted university officials to explore the possibilities of metaverses.

Formerly ASU Director of Strategy and Compositiontraining programs Casey Evans called online learning the future of education, since this format allows students to gain knowledge during quarantine and other unforeseen circumstances.

Note that the University of Arizona has longshows interest in the latest technologies. In 2019, ASU began using blockchain to store academic performance information and share this data among local colleges.
