Yandex introduced an unmanned vehicle with a fourth level of autonomy

Digging Yandex announced the release of a fourth-generation unmanned vehicle based on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata.

Today, the Russian Internet giant publishedvideo in which he demonstrated some of the new features. As part of a joint project, the Hyundai Mobis team modified the Sonata electrical control units for more efficient interaction with the autopilot, and Yandex improved cameras, radars and lidars.

The new model was equipped with three additional cameras with different focal lengths, and a radarsystem on the roof and moved the lidars to the frontwings to improve visibility. According to the developers, these changes allow the system to “see” pedestrians and vehicles even in difficult situations, such as when they enter the roadway from an alley or turn onto a busy street.

Yandex plans to add 100 self-driving HyundaisSonata with level 4 autonomy will be added to its fleet by the end of this year. They will join the current hundred Toyota Prius employed in the robotic taxi service in Innopolis and research activities in Michigan.
