UK begins testing unmanned public transport

This week in the UK began testing autonomous cars that operate without safety drivers and no supervision.

First tests take place at Cribbs mallCauseway in Gloucestershire, where shoppers can move around the hall and common pedestrian areas in small vehicles that look like cocoons. So far, researchers are studying people's reactions to new technology.

Autonomous minibuses are equipped with various sensors, radar and machine vision systems to navigate in areas filled with pedestrians, cyclists and prams.

The project called CAPRI is run bya consortium of British enterprises and academic institutions that hope to make this mode of transport a daily occurrence on the country's roads. However, first you need to understand the attitude of the public to the transport as a service model.

If the pilot project is successful, the tests will be transferred to open roads by the end of this year.

Although autonomous cars have been tested before, CAPRI is a fully self-driving initiative that could potentiallyChange the country's public transport system.

Recently, Toyota said that it also intends to stimulate the adoption of advanced technical solutions in everyday life. For these purposes, it will build a prototype city of the future for 2000 inhabitants, in which developers will be able totest your inventions in real-world conditions.
