South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor has demonstrated the concept of an electric tractor with a Neptune HDC-6 semitrailer powered by hydrogen fuel.
18-wheeled car has a sleek exteriordesign and spacious interior. The company has not yet announced information about its power, range, and other basic technical characteristics. So far, it is only known that the refrigerated trailer is made of light materials and is designed for a maximum total load of 36.3 tons.
The truck is fueled by hydrogen and the fuel cell uses it to produce electricity for electric motors. A by-product is water, which is discharged from special outlets.
Engineers also claim that the refrigeration unit is virtually silent.
Hyundai has long been in the market for largecommercial vehicles. The company currently sells vans, buses and tractors in 130 countries, and has recently entered into agreements for the supply of 1,600 trucks with fuel cells to Switzerland until 2023.
In addition to automobiles, the South Korean company also began to develop hydrogen fuel cell vessels.
