US Bitcoin ATM Network Begins Shut Down Devices Due to Coronavirus

The largest bitcoin ATM operator in the U.S., Bitcoin Depot, is shutting down some of them to prevent the spread ofepidemics of COVID-19. It is reported by Cointelegraph.

First of all, this applies to devices installed in places with high traffic to facilitate the distance of people in an epidemic.

According to the company, about 10% of its ATMs will temporarily cease operation by the end of April. In total, there are more than 600 Bitcoin Depot networks in 25 states.

"As we monitor the current situation, the number of places temporarily disconnected from thenetworks are likely to increase."- said a representative of the company.

Back in November last year, the number of Bitcoin-ATM inworldwide exceeded 6,000 units, while more than 65% of them were in the United States. To date, 7422 such devices have already been installed, and the share of the United States has grown to 70% (CoinATMradar data).

Recall that the authorities of the third largest city in Canada, Vancouver, spoke in favor of closing Bitcoin ATMs due to the threat of money laundering.
