Germany began to build a hydrogen gas transmission network

A group of German companies announced the start of the construction of the first public hydrogen supply network for industrial and private needs.

Germany's largest energy company RWEtogether with the oil company BP, the chemical company Evonik and national gas network operators have teamed up to build the 130-kilometer GET H2 pipeline. The highway will be laid in the north-west of the country to supply industrial enterprises in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.

Commissioning is planned for 2022year, but connections will only be made if it is economically feasible. According to the announcement, the network will also be available to third parties at transparent prices. 

Initially, pure hydrogen will supplyLingen electrolysis plant with a capacity of 100 MW. Additional tanks will be installed along the pipeline, which will ensure stability and security of supplies in the event of interruptions in the operation of the station.

The project is being implemented within the framework of the strategicGerman programs to reduce the use of carbon fuels and transfer industry to environmentally friendly energy sources. However, the government abandoned the idea of ​​using hydrogen for heating due to too high losses during the conversion process and the availability of more efficient alternatives.
