The University of Namibia will launch a master's program in blockchain education

The University of Namibia will launch a master's program in blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) in 2024. to develop technology startups in the country.

Head of IT Department and ChairmanThe steering committee of the University of Namibia (UNAM), Samuel Nuungulu, reported that the educational institution is already introducing blockchain-related materials into educational programs. In 2024, UNAM will offer a full course on blockchain and DLT for masters. By doing so, the university intends to lay the foundation for the development of start-ups that will apply these latest technologies in various sectors of the country, and, possibly, throughout the African continent.

Gurvi also sits on the UNAM steering committeeKavei (Gurvy Kavei). He recently released a book for those new to the industry to help them understand the basics of blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Kawei said there is a need for a similar blockchain program as the Central Bank of Namibia is exploring the possibility of launching its own digital currency. In addition, more and more public and private companies in Namibia are expressing their willingness to implement this technology into their internal processes.

Let us remind you that in 2019 MoscowThe Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) also launched a master’s program in blockchain. In this he was assisted by IBM and Norilsk Nickel, as well as the Idea blockchain competence center. Last year, the first graduates of this program already received their diplomas.

Blockchain training programs are being introduced by manyeducational institutions around the world. Thus, several years ago, similar initiatives were implemented by the University of Malta and the University of British Columbia (UBC) to train programmers with the skills needed to work in the industry.
