Tech Giants Unite to Create a Common Metaverse Policy

Meta and more than 30 other major metaverse content companies are joining together to form the Global Virtual World Strategy Forum.

Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Unity, Sony and 30 morecompanies have come together to create the infrastructure for an interoperable metaverse. The forum will focus on open source projects and tools to accelerate the adoption of metaverse standards, as well as the development of consistent terminology and deployment guidelines. 

One of the goals of the Forum is to ensure thatno single company dominated the development of the metaverse in the same way that Internet development was previously driven by multiple stakeholders.

“The potential of the metaverse will be best realized if it is built on open standards,” the press release states.

According to forum participants, effortsThe crypto industry in the metaverse, as it exists now, is a centralized and fragmented business community. That's why some of the biggest brands in gaming and software have come together to create the Metaverse Standards Forum.

At the same time, many large companies thatworking on creating content for the metaverse, refused to join the Forum. Among them are such giants as Apple, Niantic, which developed the popular augmented reality game Pokémon Go, and Roblox Corporation, the creator of the gaming product of the same name.

The forum plans to hold its first meeting in July.  It has not yet been announced whether government officials will be invited to the event, or whether it will be held in a narrow corporate circle.  

In a single vision of the development of the metaverseNot only business, but also the authorities of some countries are interested. In early June, South Korea's Ministry of Science and NIPA offered $117.1 million in financial support to companies creating metaverse content.
