Satoshi Nakamoto's Nobel Prize Statement

In December, the editors of CoinTelegraph received an email containing comments regardingBhagwan Chowdhry's proposals to nominate Satoshi Nakamoto for the Nobel Prize. The author of the letter signed as Satoshi Nakamoto.

Although this kind of letter was not the first, itmade us think deeply about this issue, as a result of which this article was written. Choudhury's proposal to nominate Satoshi for the Nobel Prize has remained unanswered for more than six months.

Choudhry's statement was published in June 2015. The professor offered himself as Satoshi's representative at the ceremony and the person responsible for handing over the award:

"Given that Nakamoto chose to remainunknown throughout his career, it is likely that he will not appear at the official ceremony taking place in December in the Swedish capital to accept the award, so as not to reveal his true identity. I would be happy to accept the award on his behalf. As for the speech, it will not be difficult to pronounce it. Nakamoto can write a speech, digitally sign it, and send it securely to me. I would rehearse the speech and give a speech at the awards ceremony on behalf of the author. There is still a question regarding the transfer of monetary reward. No, I do not expect to receive money simply because I will accept the award and give a speech on behalf of Satoshi."

But Choudhury never received a response to his proposal in any form. Perhaps until today.

Email from Satoshi Nakamoto

When we received the letter, we immediately decided that it was a joke.At first we just laughed, but then the email made us think more deeply about its content. As a result, the idea to write this article came up. There is no way to know for sure whether this email is a hoax, but you can analyze it and see what comes out.

So here's the email:

Hello Cointelegraph!
Receive a Nobel Prize for an inventionBitcoin and blockchain is not my main goal. Ted Nelson tried to convince me to reveal my real name to him so that he could nominate or nominate me for the Nobel Prize in Economics. However, he failed to do this. As far as I know, Bhagavan Choudhry, a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, nominated me as a candidate, but I am not among the official nominees. I can't help but agree with some analysts that the Nobel Prize for the invention of Bitcoin and the blockchain will certainly improve the perception of Bitcoin and digital currency in general.
Surely someone out of greed will wanttake advantage of the Nobel Prize and try to impersonate me. My goal is to accelerate the entry of Bitcoin and blockchain technologies into the list of core components of the Ethereum project, and at the same time free Bitcoin from the greedy representatives of the so-called elite to enable ordinary miners to mine Bitcoins. One of the first places for me is also my charitable foundation for helping orphans, Orphans Care International, for the support of which Bitcoin was originally created. However, since the Dread Pirate Roberts hacker and his associates have robbed me of my Bitcoin and are constantly harassing and harassing me, I feel it is my first responsibility to give each of them their due, which is possible thanks to the London Institute of Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology. I will then donate my Nobel Prize money to charity.
If intruders and secret agentsgovernments will stop bothering me and allow me to work for the benefit of humanity, this will be good news for both rich and poor. Otherwise, I'll quit all my work on this project, do something else, and they'll all end up destroying themselves. I invented Bitcoin to help the poor, but the self-interested representatives of humanity do not allow me to calmly pursue my goals. Everything has a limit. I've been pushed into a corner that I can no longer stand. I regret creating Bitcoin and the blockchain. My own invention ruined my life. I'm over it!

Satoshi Nakamoto
Inventor of Bitcoin and Blockchain

Thorough email research

The first thing that made me think was thatThe fact is that this is not the first letter claiming that Satoshi is now associated with Ethereum. This is the second time this kind of statement has come across my eyes. I already read about this in an email from supposedly Satoshi, published in another publication.

So let's get started. The first line is suspicious.

If Bitcoin is developed, most of itconcepts and the very implementation of the technology is the merit of one person, this person is truly a genius. But the author of the letter states in the very first line that he is not hiding. But in reality he is hiding, beyond any doubt. A reckless mistake for a genius.

Or maybe he is hiding, being under scrutiny? After all, he is a cryptographer. Clever.

The Nobel Prize is not Satoshi's main goal

The email further explains that the Nobel Prize is not among Satoshi's goals.

But why try so hard to prove it by bringing yourtrue goals? After all, you don’t need to do anything to receive the Nobel Prize. All he has to do is agree to the nomination to the Nobel Committee and attend the award ceremony. Or better yet, just reply to Choudhry and let him accept the award on his behalf.

The text also contains errors that cannot be called simple typos. A native speaker of English would not make such mistakes, which means that the author of this letter is not.
This is where the problem arises because the text written by Satoshi Nakamoto during the development of Bitcoin was in perfect English.

Satoshi's connection with the Ethereum project

Затем автор утверждает, что его задача is to speed up the development of the Ethereum project. This is a rather direct allusion, one might even say, dangerous for someone who does not want to reveal his identity. If it is indeed associated with the Ethereum project, it is highly imprudent to divulge such information. Is Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin Satoshi? Let's revisit this assumption after completing our email exploration.

Bitcoin's goals are misrepresented

The letter goes on to talk about another goal: “to free Bitcoin from the greedy so-called elite to make it possible for ordinary miners to mine Bitcoin.”

This got me thinking. If the letter is a scam, it should be noted that the scammer is quite smart: not many would have thought that Bitcoins are not mined by ordinary people, as was originally intended. On the other hand, it cannot be said that Bitcoin mining is in the hands of the elite. Of course, mining makes a lot of money for large institutions, but these institutions are the ones who got their hopes up in Bitcoin many years ago, ordinary people who believed in it and were able to raise the necessary funds to create mining sites or pool platforms for small miners. Satoshi should have foreseen a large investment, because this is inevitable when you are dealing with technology that brings in a lot of money. Large investors always appear sooner or later.

Bitcoin is not intended for criminal purposes

Further, who identified himself as Satoshi talks about the fundOrphans Care International, for which the technology was originally created, and claims that it is now being used for false purposes. He also accuses the Dread Pirate Roberts hacker of intercepting "his" Bitcoin project. After these words of the author, it all boils down to the fact that this is indeed a fake email.

Ross Ulbricht did not steal anything from Satoshi. He's just one of the many criminals who use technology.

As a genius who developed cryptocurrency, the origin of transactions with which it is very difficult to trace, could not expect that, along with other people, criminals and underground organizations will use its medium of exchange?

The author has a VERY tunnel vision, which leads one to believe that the letter is a hoax.

Artifice

What is written below looks like an invention of a person exhausted by the current situation. Or the forger simply didn't have the inspiration.

The government and secret agents pester Satoshi. If they don’t leave him alone, he will give up the project, "and they will all destroy themselves in the end." Satoshi wanted to help the poor, but he is annoyed by the greedy representatives of humanity. He regrets the invention of blockchain as it ruined his life.

"I'm over it"!

It probably sounds like a threat. What could he do to us? Terminate all nodes of the Bitcoin network?

Even disregarding grammaticalmistakes that run through the entire letter, the last third of the letter really looks like a deception and sounds absurd. A genius wouldn't write that. But let the readers themselves decide to believe this letter or not.

However, keep in mind that geniuses are generally strange people, and in some cases very strange. Therefore, it is too early to draw final conclusions about this letter.

One interesting option

As mentioned at the beginning of the article, whether it's trueor a lie, but the letter made us think. The first thing that came to mind was that the person who created Bitcoin (if the project can be attributed to one person) could not stop developing innovative software and systems. He would still be active and very likely the most active in the Bitcoin, i.e. cryptocurrency space. Such brilliant minds cannot be stopped. They find pleasure in creating and thinking. The creator of Bitcoin is just such a person.

This consideration brings us back to Vitalik Buterin, who is the founder of the Ethereum project, which means he is a good contender for the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, if this letter is to be believed.

Vitalik has Russian roots. He was born in Russia in 1994 and moved to Canada in 2008.

When he moved to an English-speaking country, he was6 years. He is now 21 years old. However, Vitalik is fluent in English, as can be seen from his recent interview. But there's another catch: if Vitalik is Satoshi, he would have to be around 15 years old when Bitcoin software was completed. It's not that far-fetched. Some children are so smart that it takes the breath away of adults when they realize that they themselves could never have thought of such a thing.

In the email, Satoshi also mentionscharitable foundation. Could a 15-year-old be so sympathetic to orphans that he would devote so much time to developing technology to help such an organization? It's possible, but unlikely. I don't remember what exactly I cared about at that age, but for the most part it was girls and video games.

On the About page.me Vitalik, you can find another interesting fact: he claims that he entered the university in 2012, “however, he soon dropped out to take a six-month trip around the world, while constantly participating in projects related to cryptocurrency. The result of the journey was the idea of creating Ethereum.” Bitcoin was also launched in 2012. It was on everyone's lips, so he, as the creator, did not need even more attention.

In 2013, he made one notable statement: “Bitcoin is a middle-of-the-road technology.”

Despite denials, still a candidate

Vitalik, the "art creator" and son of programmer Dmitry Buterin, started his programming career quite early by writing code for small games.

“When I was 10, I started writing games in the languageC ++ using Allegro. At first it was games like Bounce Ball, but gradually I moved on to more complex games like Tower Defense and Space Invaders. Basically, I created games that I then played myself, trying to beat myself. As soon as I won one game, I went on to create another. "

Vitalik entered the Bitcoin world seven years later:

“I first heard about him during dinner from mydad, when I was 17. At first, I did not take this technology seriously, as it seemed that it did not carry any actual value and no one would accept it. However, after a few weeks I stumbled upon a discussion of Bitcoin on the Internet and came to the conclusion that there might really be something in this technology. "

Developing a business model at 17

“Then I read discussions on Bitcoin forums andI wanted to find a way to get bitcoins (at that time I had neither money nor mining equipment). Then I accidentally found someone who was willing to pay 5 Bitcoin (then $4) to write an article for a blog he was starting. I've been doing this for a while. Eventually, even though my employer was paying me 15% of minimum wage, he ran out of money. So, to continue earning bitcoins, I invented a business model: write 2 articles a week, publish the first paragraph of each, and make the rest of the content paid and only reveal it when 2-4 bitcoins are transferred to the specified address. The model worked great and generated income for two months.

Then Mihai Alisie sent me a letter with an offer to join the magazine he was going to publish, and everything went and went. "

Satoshi is one person between 30 and 50 years old.

When Vitalik was told about an email sent to CoinTelegraph from a man who calls himself Satoshi Nakamoto and claims to be involved in the Ethereum project, he replied as follows:

"I can neither confirm nor deny thisstatement. Given this, we can come to the following logical conclusion: the letter is a falsification or Satoshi has lost his private key. In fact, it could be any member of our team.

I think a lot of people would like to divert attention from themselves in this way.

However, I have a fairly common idea of Satoshi: he is a person from 30 to 50 years old, possibly Japanese. Although it would be great if a woman was hiding under this pseudonym.

Regarding the statement “Bitcoin is an intermediary technology,” Vitalik responded that when he stated this, he was talking about a 50-100 year perspective.

To the last question "Are you Satoshi Nakamoto?" he replied simply:

"No".
