Cardano team postpones Vasil hard fork to July

The developers have postponed the activation of the Vasil hard fork in the Cardano network, previously scheduled for June 29. The head announced thisNigel Hemsley, Input Output Global (IOG) Product Integration Team.

On the testnet, the launch of Vasil was scheduled for 20June. According to him, the IOG engineering team did not have time to fix all the technical problems, although they are “very close to completing the work.” None of the seven remaining errors are serious, Hemsley clarified.

The IOG developers, together with the Cardano Foundation, will determine the new date for testing the hard fork based on three main criteria:

  • absence of critical problems;
  • acceptable cost and performance indicators;
  • properly informing the community (including exchanges and dapps) about the update.

The release of the hard fork in the testnet is tentatively scheduled for the end of June. The main network upgrade was scheduled for the last week of July.

«Work on Vasil so far has beenthe most complex development and integration program. This is a complex process that requires not only significant effort from working groups, but also close coordination across the ecosystem,” Hemsley noted.

Hard fork includes four improvement proposalsCardano. The implementation of Vasil is expected to increase network throughput, reduce transaction costs, and improve blockchain security. The update will also make it easier to interact with Plutus smart contracts.

Recall that in early June, the developers noted an increase in transactional activity in the Cardano network amid expectations of Vasil activation.
