The 32-year-old native of Riga decided to cash out his cryptocurrency reserves and arranged a meeting with Telegram messengerbuyers. It would seem that what could go wrong? Yes, almost everything. Strangers called him to a meeting at a gas station in the village of Lisy Nos. This did not at all embarrass the self-confident seller of the crypt. He did not cancel the deal when the buyers arrived at the meeting in a Mercedes-Benz car without license plates.

The man transferred the cryptocurrency in the amount of 2.2 millionrubles to the buyer's wallet, after which the partners in the transaction got into the car and left, leaving the unlucky seller without cash. The stolen goods were driven through the mixer two minutes after the deal. The victim contacted the police, so the driver and passenger of the car were promptly detained. Investigators are checking into the theft of digital currency.

A declining market opens up big opportunities forscammers of all kinds. The most popular scheme for scammers is phishing - placing fake links to large crypto platforms in order to gain unauthorized access to user funds. Phishing schemes have become widespread thanks to the emergence of e-mail, have become a real misfortune for crypto investors. Back in December 2018, it was reported that users of the Electrum wallet were subjected to phishing attacks, during which the attackers stole more than 200 BTC (almost a million US dollars).

A fake celebrity account on social networks can also be a good help for scammers, who asks to send him cryptocurrency, promising to increase the amount several times and return it to the owner.

However, even meeting with a crypto buyer in person is nothelps to protect yourself from deception. To exchange cryptocurrencies, it is better to use the services of trusted cryptocurrency exchanges or exchangers with a good reputation.
