Pensioner lost more than RUB 1 million when trying to buy cryptocurrency

A resident of Voronezh trusted an unknown trader who promised to help profitably invest money in digitalassets. He convinced the woman to transfer funds to the exchange, and then stopped communicating.

A 63-year-old resident of Voronezh applied tolaw enforcement agencies, reporting that she lost about 1.1 million rubles in an attempt to invest in cryptocurrency. According to the victim, she found advertising on the Internet, where it was offered to profitably invest in digital assets. After following the link, the woman was contacted by a man posing as a trader and persuaded her to install an application on her phone for remote control of the device, according to the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Voronezh region.

Later, an unknown person convinced the pensionerregister on the crypto exchange and top up the balance. The woman agreed and transferred the funds to an account on the trading platform. After that, the unknown person stopped communicating. Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case under the article "Fraud".

In May, two residents of Veliky Novgorod lostmore than 1 million rubles. According to them, they transferred money to scammers who offered the victims to purchase cryptocurrency on “favorable terms”. Criminal cases were also initiated against the suspects under Article 19 "Fraud"
