Yuga Labs has eliminated the possibility of unlimited release of BAYC collection NFTs

The Yuga Labs team revoked the smart contract that allowed it to issue an unlimited number of NFT collectionsBored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), one year after first promising to do so.

"The contract holder has now been burned. We wanted this for a long time, but we didn't do it for security reasons. We feel comfortable doing this," wrote the co-founder of the project under the nickname EmperorTomatoKetchup.

As proof, he disclosed a transaction that the developers removed the possibility of issuing.

The Blockworks media platform specialists reminded the Yuga Labs team about the problem:

"A single private key can reportedly issue an infinite number of Bored Ape."

In the event that the owner's wallet was hacked, this gavean opportunity for attackers to flood the market with tokens, bringing down the price. At the time of writing, the cheapest BAYC on the OpenSea marketplace is valued at 69.69 ETH (~$126,835), the most expensive at 18,880 ETH (~$34.4 million).

For the first time, users noticed that the BAYC code included the possibility of issuing NFTs in excess of the declared 10,000 tokens in June 2021.

"Obviously, we're not going to ever call this feature again and intend to revoke ownership in the next couple of days," the project team replied at the time.

They fulfilled their promise only on June 7, 2022.

Three days before that, hackers broke into the project's Discord servers and placed phishing links in communication channels.

In March, attackers carried out a similar successful attack on the Bored Ape Yacht Club Instagram account.

Recall that in February, a BuzzFeed journalistdeanonymized two of the four co-founders of the NFT collection under the pseudonyms GordonGoner and Gargamel. Who is hiding under the nicknames EmperorTomatoKetchup and NoSass is unknown.
