Art curator, New York galleryRoss+Kramer, a collector of unique tokens, tweeted that he was the victim of a phishing scam. Hackers stole 16 non-fungible tokens from three different collections: eight NFTs from Bored Ape Yacht Club, seven NFTs from Mutant Ape Yacht Club and one NFT CloneX. The value of the stolen crypto assets is estimated at approximately $2.2 million.

The user clicked on a link leading toa “phishing contract” disguised as a genuine NFT application, thereby authorizing that contract to spend tokens on its behalf. The attacker has already managed to sell several assigned tokens on the OpenSea platform. For example, the NFT CloneX was sold for 17 ETH. The remaining tokens were frozen by the platform at Kramer's request. He said he learned an important lesson and advised other collectors to use a hardware wallet to protect their tokens from theft.

Last week from a phishing scamThe attacks affected Monkey Kingdom NFT buyers, who lost 7,000 SOL worth $1.3 million. According to PhishLabs, in the first half of 2021, the total volume of phishing attacks across all industries increased by 22%. Previously, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also warned the public about an increase in the number of phishing attacks to steal cryptocurrencies.

Considering the rise in popularity of NFT this year,Attackers use this for their own purposes, so the owners of collectible tokens and any other cryptocurrencies should remain vigilant to avoid costly mistakes.
