Twitter explained how hackers managed to massively hack pages

Twitter has shed some light on the unprecedented hacking attack that led to multiple hijackingspopular accounts with millions of followers.

Twitter said its internal systems were compromised by hackers, confirming the theory that the attack could not have been carried out without access to the company's own tools.

On the official page, the company noted:

“We discovered that Twitter employees with access to internal systems and tools were the victims of a coordinated social engineering attack.”

The company does not specify which instrumentsattackers contacted or how the attack was carried out, but information has already appeared on the network that various underground hacker circles are sharing screenshots of the company's internal administrator tool, presumably used to capture accounts, possibly by resetting the email account settings, and then recovering passwords.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has promised to release the full details as soon as Twitter finds out more details about the hack.

Meanwhile, blockchain startup Chainalysisanalyzed the activity of a bitcoin address that received about 12.86 BTC (about 120 thousand US dollars) (375 transactions, although block observers show 374). The hackers had two additional addresses. The addresses exchanged coins among themselves, giving the impression of people's participation in the distribution.

The largest amount was sent from a wallet that has worked closely with Japanese exchanges in the past. The rest of the transfers came mainly from international platforms.
