Kraken Experts Hack Trezor Wallet in 15 Minutes

Kraken Security Labs has discovered a way to extract a seed phrase from Trezor One and Model T hardware wallets.Procedurehacking takes only 15 minutes.

On Twitter, experts indicated that having access toa device and a special device worth ~ $ 75, a hacker can crack a wallet in about 15 minutes. The record says that Trezor developers have long been aware of the problem, but cannot fix this vulnerability.

 Kraken's Chief Security Officer Nick Perkoko said:

The downside is hardwaredevices. Trezor cannot fix it with an update or patch. In order to finally solve this problem, they need to release a new wallet.

Soon after the recording was published, Trezor employees replied that the attack could not be carried out if the user had BIP 39 passphrase enabled. On their twitter they wrote:

According to our research, physical access tothe device faces only 6-9% of users. However, if you are worried that someone might be accessing your wallet, we recommend using the passphrase function.

Percoco confirmed the words of Trezor:

We would not be able to carry out the attack ifthe passphrase function would be active. However, this feature is optional and many users don't even know about it. Recommendation for Trezor owners – control access to your wallet and use the passphrase function.

Recall that last year, experts from Ledgerpublished a report stating that an attacker with physical access to Trezor One and Trezor T could extract all the data from the flash memory and gain control over the assets stored on the device.
