Trezor and Wasabi announce launch date for Bitcoin mixer for hardware wallets

The teams of the Wasabi and Trezor projects, against the backdrop of government control of cryptocurrencies, are developing a protocol for the anonymization of hardware wallets.

Wasabi announced that it has begun collaborating withTrezor to create a CoinJoin protocol that will randomly group Bitcoin transactions from hardware wallets to hide the origin of funds. Representatives of Wasabi Wallet clarified that using the new application, Trezor Suite users will be able to carry out anonymous transactions in bitcoins:

“You will be able to integrate the CoinJoin protocol into your hardware wallet and Trezor Suite app.”

Head of the department for work withpublicity and reputation of the company zkSNACKs (software developer for Wasabi Wallet), Karo Zagorus added that negotiations on the partnership began back in 2019 and the result represents a “phenomenal achievement.” The partners believe that as government surveillance increases, financial transactions could increasingly be used by officials to spy on citizens in the future.

Therefore, the privacy of cryptocurrencies is nowmore important than ever before. The companies, according to their representatives, are striving to make Bitcoin more private. They believe that, contrary to popular belief, Bitcoin is not inherently anonymous and can be easily traced.

In June, the Dutch financial police department(FIOD), responsible for economic crimes (FACT), has launched an investigation into the Tornado Cash mixer. Tornado Cash developer Alexander Pertsev was arrested on suspicion of money laundering through a mixer. According to the latest data, Pertsev will spend three months in prison, during which time the initial hearing of his case in court should take place.
