The layered wireless charging system doubles its power density

Researchers have created and tested new layeredDesigns of wireless charging devices that allow doubling their specific power and reducing weight, compared with existing technologies.

Modern wireless charging systemsElectric vehicles consist of two charging coils: one is mounted under the vehicle, and the other is located at ground level. When they are aligned, the transmitted power charges the battery.

A team of scientists from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory presented a three-phasesystems with rotating magnetic fields between the layers of coils, which works much more efficiently than existing options.

According to the developers, the layered designThe coil transfers energy more evenly, which allows you to double the specific power. During the tests, the three-phase system successfully transferred 50 kW of energy with an efficiency of 95%. As the system continues to improve, efficiency will increase even further.

This study brings the team closer to creating a device for charging an electric car in 20 minutes.

Beyond electric vehicles, technology is becoming everythingmore popular for charging gadget batteries, and a wireless charging device has recently been created, which can be given any shape.
