Scientists have discovered a new enzyme complex that stops cell aging

A group of researchers has developed a multi-enzyme complex that reprograms the metabolism of cells and stops aging when they stop dividing.

Throughout history, humanity has been striving to find wayslife extension. Achievements of modern science and medicine contribute significantly to this, but scientists continue to look for effective methods that are guaranteed to give the desired result. These include researchers from the University of Montreal and McGill University who discovered a new drug.

The team describedproperties of a hydride transfer complex (HTC),which significantly improves tissue metabolism, slowing down or even stopping their aging. In fact, the drug protects cells from hypoxia, a lack of oxygen, which usually leads to their death. However, it should be borne in mind that it can have a similar effect on some cancer cells.

The developed complex consists of three enzymes: pyruvate carboxylase, malate dehydrogenase-1 and NADP-dependent decarboxylating malate dehydrogenase.

In the course of research, it was discovered not only thatthat the introduction of the complex improves cell metabolism. Experiments on a mouse prostate cancer cell model have shown that inhibition of HTC stops their growth. This allows the drug to be used as a base for the development of new therapies for various types of cancer, the team said.

The complex under study was assembled in the laboratory from individual proteins, but scientists are already working on a technology for the serial production of the necessary enzyme structures.

Conducting experiments with already well-knowndrugs and researchers can also make incredible discoveries. For example, last year they discovered that a common blood pressure medication can significantly prolong life.
