Ripple users can now delete their wallets on the XRP network. The update was added afterthe majority of the community voted for the change.
Former XRP Center manager Arturo Portilla tweeted:
After 80% of the community voted to change the Deletable Accounts Amendment, on May 8, 2020 at 4:29:30 UTC, the account deletion function was activated on the network.
Blockchain users can now delete accounts
According to the official XPRL blog:
Only the account owner can delete it, because to delete it is necessary to send a transaction from the wallet.
Deleting an account means that the accountwill no longer exist on the XRP blockchain, however, the wallet's past activity will still be traceable. In order to restore a deleted wallet, you need to send 20 XRP to it. Anyone can do this, but the user will still need the private key to regain access to the wallet.
The update was integrated on May 8th. Users have already tested the new feature.
This newly enabled amendment conceives two types of accounts: a. deletable accounts, and b. non-deletable accounts.
Since certain XRPL objects have implied outstanding obligations (i.e. escrows, trust lines, checks and paychans), accounts showing such objects are non-deletable.

As a reminder, according to a recent study, most transactions on the XRP blockchain do not carry any value.
