Optimism Network Crashes After Starting OP Token Airdrop

The developers of the second layer solution for the Optimism Ethereum network have begun distributing OP governance tokens to community members. The load turned out to be so great that failures began in the Optimism network.

There has been no official announcement about the airdrop of OP tokens yet. The developers stressed that they are working to “provide more network capacity” ahead of the official announcement.

Work delays were recorded asconducting transactions, and when working with remote procedure calls (RPC). RPCs allow third-party applications to leverage Optimism's capabilities. For example, use the MetaMask wallet or other wallets, as well as interact with other blockchains. Therefore, users could not sell or buy OP tokens. The developers managed to solve the network problems within a few hours.

“We learned a lesson and a lot of knowledge that will be applied to the second distribution of tokens,” wrote the Optimism developers.

Let us remind you that the right to participate in the distributionCryptocurrency users who used the solution before March 25 will receive OP management tokens. A total of 231,000 addresses should participate in the airdrop - they will receive 214 million tokens (5% of the total). That is, on average, each user will receive 860 tokens. Previously, the developers removed 17,000 cryptocurrency wallets from the lists of those registered for the free distribution of tokens.
