On YouTube found fake Brad Garlinghouse distributing 50 million XRP

A fake account of the head of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse, was discovered on YouTube video hosting, on whose behalf the scammersannounced the distribution of 50 million XRP tokens in exchange for user coins.

The video itself is not fake — ThisGarlinghouse's February interview. However, in the description of the video, the scammers offer users to send from 2 to 500 thousand XRP and allegedly receive from 20 thousand to 5 million tokens in return.

At the time of the discovery of the account, the number of its subscribers reached 276 thousand, and about 76 thousand users watched the video.

The Twitter user, who first reported the scam, said he discovered the page through an advertisement in the YouTube feed.

“In my opinion, scammers buy YouTube channels with a large number of subscribers, and then delete all the content and upload similar videos,” —he explained the reason for such a large number of subscribers for the fraudulent channel.

While fraudulent on YouTubeaccounts, the platform often removes real cryptocurrency content. In December, YouTube removed the video of Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin and, due to a “moderation error,” blocked hundreds of cryptocurrency-related videos.

In this regard, the community launched the #ForkGoogle initiative, aimed at supporting the development of alternative distributed technologies based on bitcoin and other cryptocurrency systems.

As part of the initiative, ForkLog talked about decentralized Youtube counterparts.
