Meta to Launch Ten Virtual Campuses at US Universities

A leading player in the metaverse market, Meta, in partnership with Victoryxr, organized the development of metaverses for teaching students at ten American universities.

As part of the Meta's Immersive Learning projectthe company has allocated $150 million, part of which is intended to supply Meta Quest headsets. Mark Zuckerberg's company also covered the costs of designing and developing metaverses. Creating one virtual campus costs on average about $50,000.

The Meta initiative aims to expandstudent access to metaverse technology through partnerships with ten universities. One of them was the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), a virtual platform for 45,000 students. UMGC offers five metaverse-based courses at no additional cost to students.

Also among the company’s partners is the School of NursingUniversity of Kansas, New Mexico State University, South Dakota State University, Florida A&M University, West Virginia University, Southwestern Oregon Community College, California State University, Dominguez Hills and Alabama and A&M University 

At the same time, the creation of a metaverse for Meta itselfwhile it's causing losses. In July, Reality Labs, a division of Meta that develops metaverses, reported a loss of $2.8 billion for the second quarter of this year.
