Jimmy Wales: Integrating Cryptocurrencies into Wikipedia Is a Very Bad Idea

Jimmy Wales: cryptocurrency integration on Wikipedia is a very bad idea

The creator of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, called the idea of integrating blockchain or cryptocurrenciesto his encyclopedia“Crazy and very bad.”

Speaking at the CoinGeek conference, Wales said that as of today, there is nothe kind of use case for cryptocurrencies that would convince him to add their support to Wikipedia.According to him, the integration of blockchain or bitcoin can cause irreparable damage to the platform's performance.

He said:

This is a very bad idea. This idea does not work. If you take a bad idea and transfer it to the blockchain, it will not make it a good one.

Wales made this statement afterconference keynote speaker Craig Wright said that Wikipedia will gain many benefits by integrating the BSV blockchain. According to him, at the moment large corporations can manipulate information on the platform.

Wales added:

Integrating such a mechanism will not improve the quality of Wikipedia at all.

Recall that earlier the creator of Wikipedia criticized Bitcoin Satoshi Vision and said that “the likelihood that the platform will ever use this currency is zero.”
