Italian Red Cross, Young Platform and ColliThe Albani Committee has begun accepting donations in Bitcoin to fight the coronavirus pandemic, the spread of which governments around the world are trying to contain. Payments will be accepted through the Helperbit platform, which helps organize fundraising for charitable purposes.

According to sources familiar with the initiative,each donation received will be used to create advanced second-level medical facilities. Reportedly, these health centers will carry out a preliminary diagnosis of COVID-19 cases in Italy.

Italy is one of the countries most seriouslyvictims of coronavirus. The entire country has been placed under quarantine, which has brought the local economy to a complete standstill. The amount raised will be used to purchase hospital beds and hire medical staff to meet the needs of the exponentially growing number of patients.

Colli Albani Committee President Bruno Pietrosanti commented on the situation:

“We believe that such an innovative fundraising tool as Bitcoin will help us obtain the necessary economic resources that are difficult to access in this difficult period.”

Coronavirus has become not only a threat to publichealthcare, but also seriously damaged the global economy, including the cryptocurrency industry. Last Thursday, the price of BTC dropped to $5,600 amid declines in traditional markets and failed to recover. Currently, the Bitcoin price is hovering around $5,000.

On Friday, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange(CME) has suspended trading in Chicago, including Bitcoin derivatives, due to the spread of the coronavirus. Additionally, the NYDFS has required regulated cryptocurrency companies to provide detailed coronavirus preparedness plans due to its threat to public health and business.
