Greenidge Generation Increased Bitcoin Mining by 18%

In June, the American mining company Greenidge Generation Holdings mined about 230 BTC. This is approximately 18% more than inprevious month.

The firm also increased its hash rate to 2.5 EH/s. As of the end of May, the rate was 1.7 EH/s.

As of June 30, Greenidge had a fleet of 27,500miners, waiting for the delivery of another 200 devices. Approximately 24% of the company's computing capacity is located at the Spartanburg, South Carolina facility.

In early June, environmentalists and New York Assembly member Anna Kelles called on Gov. Kathy Hochul to revoke Greenidge's mining permit.

At the end of the month, the Department of Environmental ProtectionWednesday, New York State denied a pending application to renew the company's current operating permit. Greenidge said the Dresden facility will continue to operate while the firm challenges the authority's decision in court.

Previously, both houses of the New York Assembly supporteda bill on a two-year moratorium on the mining of cryptocurrencies using electricity generated from carbon sources. The document is being signed by the governor.

According to the initiator of the bill, Kelles, it does not prohibit the mining of digital assets and will affect a limited number of energy facilities.

Greenidge is mining at a hybrid power plant located on the shores of Lake Seneca.

Recall that in 2021 the company faced accusations of a negative impact on the environment. In 2022, the New York Supreme Court rejected environmentalists' claims against Greenidge.
