Block.one startup CTO Dan Larimer shared details of a future update to the EOS.IO protocol.designed to optimize the use of network resources.

A solution called DISK involves unloadingpieces of data from the main blockchain to separate databases. This should reduce the burden on smart contracts and reduce RAM consumption. The solution will be released in the coming weeks.

According to Larimer, the system will useRocksDB databases, which are more advanced than LevelDB. DISK will primarily interact with large amounts of data that are used infrequently.

He added that the launch of the alpha version of DISK will be supported by RAM resources. Nodes, however, can be updated on a voluntary basis.

Work on API tools for developers will also be completed in the coming weeks.

Recall, recently Larimer angered the Chinese community with his statements about the coronavirus.
