Blockchain working group to be formed in Kentucky

The governor of the US state of Kentucky signed a bill to create a working group that willfocused on blockchain initiatives.

According to the website of the General AssemblyKentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed on April 24th. The bill was introduced by the state senate in early January and went through all the necessary procedures by the end of next month. The State House finally approved the bill on April 14th.

“The working group should evaluate the appropriateness andthe effectiveness of using the blockchain to increase security and strengthen the protection of critical state infrastructure. Including, but not limited to, the electric network, gas pipelines, the supply and delivery of drinking water, wastewater, telecommunications and emergency services, ”the bill says.

The working group will include 9 members from variousKentucky departments, including representatives from the Technology Department, the Civil Service Commission, and the Kentucky Department of Homeland Security. The working group will report annually on the results to the Governor of the State and the Legislative Research Commission. It is planned to allocate $ 400,000 annually for the group's activities.

In the report of the working group, priority areas of work, options for using the blockchain in various areas of life and an analysis of the effectiveness and advantages of such an implementation should be reported.

Note that the blockchain is gradually beginning to be used by various states and departments of the United States. So, back in early 2019, Wyoming approved four bills on blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
