BitMEX: Bitcoin development is most funded by Blockstream and Lightning Labs

The research arm of cryptocurrency derivatives exchange BitMEX has announced that the development of an open sourceBitcoin's source code is mostly funded by Blockstream and Lightning Labs.

“The current situation is healthier than previously, especially with regard to financial accessibility, transparency and the extent of distribution to financial backers,” the analysts wrote.

Researchers Determine Sponsorshipused public data received from people involved in the development of the Bitcoin network. Blockstream and Lightning Labs sponsored 8 developers, and Square Crypto - 7. Another 6 developers supported Chaincode and Purse, as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Digital Currency Initiative (DCI).

Moreover, according to researchers,Chaincode Labs is the largest sponsor of Bitcoin Core development. Among the 33 most active developers, Bitcoin Core 11 are independent, 7 developers are sponsored by Chaincode, and only 3 are Blockstream.

Last December, researchersBitMEX reported that the latest versions of Bitcoin Core have significantly improved the ability to synchronize full nodes, which increases their number and therefore decentralization of the entire network.
