Bank of Ghana working to create its own digital currency

The Ghanaian West African nation will soon acquire its own digital currency.

Ernest Addison,Governor of the Bank of Ghana, spoke about this intime of the annual banking conference on tuesday. He stated that the central bank is discussing with “key stakeholders” the issue of researching a pilot project in the field of digital currency “with the possibility of issuing an electronic Sadie in the near future”.

According to Addison:

The digital era offers the financial sector enormous potential to reorient consumers towards new needs.

Africa has recently seen an increaseinterest in cryptocurrencies. Just last month, Paxful announced it had opened 800,000 wallets, driven by growth in African countries – Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya.

Thus, today there are at least 64 companies developing in the field of blockchain and cryptocurrency in Africa.
