A resident of Belarus lost $70,000 worth of cryptocurrencies while trying to cash out

A cryptocurrency trader from the Belarusian city of Grodno tried to cash out $70,000 worth of digital assets, but fell for scammers.By trusting them, he lost all his savings.

According to the press service of the Investigative Committee for the Grodno region, the 31-year-old traderFor about a year, he traded cryptocurrencies on various exchanges.When a significant amount of money accumulated on his wallet, he decided to exchange it for Belarusian rubles.To do this, he contacted a representative of the exchanger, but it turned out to be a scammer.

The man, who was contacted by the victim, said that it was necessary to check the legality of crypto assets.To do this, he sent a link to link the wallet to the Grodno resident.After he linked his wallet, all his savings were gone.Instead of $70,000 worth of assets, only $19 worth of tokens remained on the address.

Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal casecase under Part 4 of Art. 212 (theft of property by modifying computer information, committed on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. If the attacker is caught, he faces from 5 to 12 years in prison.

Now investigative and operational search actions are being carried out - inspection of computer equipment and obtaining information on the movement of funds in the victim’s accounts.

In November, another resident of Belarus also almostlost a large sum. He tried to buy $20,000 worth of cryptocurrency, but the seller ran away with his money in his hands. However, the police managed to quickly detain the criminal.
