The latest version has lost the BIP61 circuit, whichcould be activated with the command "-enablebip61". This option allowed the nodes to exchange information regarding the rejection of certain transactions. The developers decided that this could be a reason for abuse, but presented alternative methods of using this functionality.

The new release also did not include the BIP70. The above scheme is a payment protocol that assigns a URL to the wallet instead of a simple address. This URL responds to the Get-request, after which the merchant's server sends the address and the payment amount. Forklog previously reported that such a decision would affect the work of BitPay's cryptocurrency processing, which, unlike its competitors, did not switch to the BIP21 scheme.

BIP61 and BIP70 support was stopped in Bitcoin Core by default in the previous versions 0.18.0 and 0.19.0 respectively. The BIP70 exception made it possible to disable support for the OpenSSL library.

Wallets in Bitcoin Core 0.20.0, when communicating via remote procedure calls, by default use bech32 addresses. For the first time, bech32 addresses were used by default in the GUI in Bitcoin Core 0.19.0.

The new Bitcoin Core client has been tested in versions for Linux, macOS 10.12+ and Windows 7+ and is now available for download.

An hour after the update was released, more than 100 nodes switched to the new software.
