Within a week, the Ethereum Classic network suffered two 51% attacks. Vitalik Buterin and the ETC community have some reasonable ideasquestions regarding network security.
On August 6, a second 51% attack occurred on the ETC network. At the moment it is unknown who carried out the attack – the same hacker or his follower.
On Twitter, Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin wrote:
ETC just need to go to proof of stake. And while developers don't want to risk it, implementing PoS is not as risky now as not switching to it.
Despite the obvious vulnerabilities in the Ethereum Classic blockchain, ETC is still trading around $7 – in seven days, falling by only 1.5%.
