$ 27 million in Bitcoin stolen from Bitfinex set in motion

Bitcoins stolen in 2016 from the Bitfinex exchange are on the move again.This time, the attackers movedover $ 27 million in a few hours.

Nine transactions were made from addresses associated with hackers for a total of 2,550 BTC (~ $ 27.8 million). The first translation on the evening of July 27 was noticed by WhaleAlert. The funds were transferred to an anonymous wallet.

Most recently hacked fundsmoved on July 24, when the attackers transferred 260.71 BTC and 271.2 BTC. Prior to this, hackers carried out 20 transactions from 15 to 33 BTC for a total of more than $ 4 million.

May 22 from another wallet wheretagged bitcoins, withdrew 28.39124 BTC ($ 258,000). On June 2, another 77.644901 BTC (almost $ 800,000) was transferred from the address where the other part of the stolen funds was stored.

Bitfinex was hacked in August 2016. In total, the attackers stole 119,756 BTC ($ 71.8 million at the exchange rate at the time).

The exchange cleared all of its debts after losing bitcoins in April 2017. In mid-2019, Israeli police arrested two brothers suspected of burglaries.

Earlier this month, a court rejected Bitfinex's appeal in a $ 850 million disappearance case.
