The number of cryptocurrency ATMs in the world increased by 87%

In September 2020, the total number of bitcoin ATMs worldwide exceeded 10,000 devices.

According toNorwegian financial company AksjeBloggen, forOver the past year, the number of Bitcoin ATMs (BTMs) has increased by 87%, compared to 5,336 machines registered in September 2019. Almost 3,900 new ATMs were added in 2020.

The monitoring resource CoinATMRadar shows that there are currently 10,014 ATMs in 71 countries, allowing users to buy and sell bitcoin (BTC) and altcoins for cash.

"In 2020, there was an increase in the number of ATMs supporting digital coins.Between January and September, an additional 3,885 new BTMs were added worldwide, a 67% increase over the previous nine months.", Says the AksjeBloggen report.

The United States is currently leading inthe global market by a significant margin of more than 7,800 BTM. Canada is in second place with 869 cars. Depending on the type of machine, cryptocurrency owners can purchase and exchange major cryptocurrencies for fiat, including Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dash (DASH), Litecoin (LTC), Zcash (ZEC), Monero (XMR), Dogecoin ( DOGE), Tether (USDT) and XRP.

However, not all countries are experiencing growthnumber of devices. CoinATMRadar data shows that Austria is among the few countries to see negative install growth since 2019. There are currently 149 BTMs in the country, up from 244 in September 2019.

Negative dynamics can be associated withregulatory environment, new rules including in neighboring Germany, where there are only 27 BTMs. There, car owners must obtain a license from the country's financial regulator. In addition, German businesses will be liable for unlicensed bitcoin ATMs on their premises, regardless of their ownership.
