The new working group of the State Duma will deal with the regulation of bitcoin

Today, at a meeting of the State Duma, it was decided to create a working group that will deal with issues of legalregulation of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. This was reported by the "Parlamentskaya Gazeta".

The topic for discussion was raised by a deputy from the factionLiberal Democratic Party Andrei Lugovoi. During his speech, he recalled the law on digital financial assets adopted in 2020, adding that Russia, as before, in matters of regulation of cryptocurrencies, "has been standing still for a year and a half."

Lugovoi added that it is necessary to decide ontaxation of cryptocurrency mining, primarily by individuals who use cheap electricity subsidized by the state for this, and also pointed to the "lack of legal regulation" due to which "law enforcement agencies generally fall into a dead end."

He said that, together with his colleagues in the Duma, he had prepared a bill on this topic and would soon submit it to the State Duma for consideration.

It turns out that miners annually get rich ontwo billion dollars at the expense of the population and do not pay taxes, while they want to do it, - he said. - Lack of legal regulation creates a gray area that turns into negative consequences for economies.

State Duma Speaker Viacheslav Volodin supported the proposal to create such a working group. He instructed the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Alexei Gordeev to create it from representatives of specialized committees.

Taking this into account, it can be assumed that any attempt at regulation in Russia is likely to end with a ban.
