The largest mining pool of the Monero network MineXMR announced the closure

MineXMR, the largest mining pool on the Monero blockchain network, has announced that it will cease its XMR mining operations as of August 12th.

This mining pool accounts forabout 48% of the Monero network hashrate. The announcement of the cessation of work was published on the official website. The mining pool provided miners with information regarding the reconfiguration of their devices. It is recommended that the reconfiguration be completed before the pool stops working:

“We recommend switching to decentralizedp2pool. There are no pool fees when using p2pool, and the decentralized pool helps support the Monero network. Bye and thanks for all the blocks!”

In February, the Monero community discussed
growing influence in the r/monero subredditmining pool MineXMR. At that time, according to community members, the pool already controlled 44% of the Monero network hashrate, which carried potential risks to the security of the network and the possibility of a “51% attack,” that is, attempts to gain complete control over Monero. In this regard, users were repeatedly urged to leave the MineXMR mining pool to reduce the threat.

Following the closure of MineXMR, the dominant mining pools on the network should be Nano Pool and Supportxmr, which currently account for 21.82% and 14.85% of Monero's global hashrate.

In April the creators of the largest anonymouscryptocurrency Monero (XMR) reported that a hard fork of the main network is planned for July 16 at block 2,668,888. However, according to network observer Monero Observer, an update
network postponed to August 13.
