A working group will be formed in the Federation Council, which will discuss issues related to the regulation of cryptocurrencies in Russia. This was announced at the Finopolis forum by the vice-speaker of the upper house of parliament Nikolai Zhuravlev, writes TASS. He called the expediency of a legislative ban on transactions with digital assets a difficult and controversial issue.

“We propose both today and in future work in this direction to jointly weigh the pros and cons,” Zhuravlev added.

The senator also noted that the law "On digitalfinancial assets ”does not cover the legal regulation of the whole variety of digital instruments. According to Zhuravlev, in the practice of applying the law, issues have already emerged that require precise adjustments to the document. Zhuravlev called the ban on the use of cryptocurrencies as a payment instrument a correct and timely decision.

The senator recalled the lack of security andhigh volatility of digital assets. According to Zhuravlev, cryptocurrencies are a speculative financial instrument that does not provide monitoring and control mechanisms.

In November, the Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin instructed to create a working group that will discuss the issue of legalizing cryptocurrency mining in Russia.
