South Korean Central Bank to set up working group on digital currencies

South Korea's central bank will form a task force to study digital currencies next yearCentral Banks (CBDC).

In the review «Monetary Policy for 2020» The Bank of Korea said that exploring innovations such as distributed ledger technology, crypto assets and CBDC,
will help strengthen the security of settlement systems.

As part of the creation of the working group, the central bank intends to hire experts in this area.

The regulator also plans to collaborate with the Bank for International Settlements and other international organizations to keep abreast of the development of CBDC in other countries.

According to the study, at least 18 central banks are developing CBDC. Among them are the People's Bank of China and the ECB.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered the government to complete the CBDC pilot test in 2020.

It was also reported that the central bank of France next year will begin testing its own digital currency.
