The Ethereum team will transfer the Ropsten testnet to the Proof-of-Stake algorithm

The Ethereum development team will migrate the Ropsten testnet to the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm.Estimatedproject team, there is less than half an hour left until the testnet “merges” with the Beacon Chain signaling network.

As expected, the "merger" will occur in several stages. On May 30, the developers deployed the blockchain consensus layer - Beacon Chain.

On June 2, in slot #24,000, the team activatedBellatrix update to prepare Beacon Chain for its merger with Ropsten. The developers set the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) parameter at 50×1015.

TTD is the cumulative complexity of the network up tothe requested block. Typically, the parameter is used to exclude unwanted forks— the client is configured so that it supports a branch with a large indicator.

At the time of writing, TTD Ropsten exceeds 49×1015.

It is assumed that after the network reaches thismark will start the merging process. The next block can only be mined by the Beacon Chain validator. The migration is considered complete after the release of this block.

After the completion of the process in Ropsten, the Goerli and Sepoila test networks will be transferred to the PoS algorithm. This will take several weeks.

Recall that in May 2022, one of the leading developers, Preston Van Loon, announced that the transition of Ethereum to the PoS algorithm would take place in August.
