The Cryptopia liquidator has encountered new difficulties in recovering funds to exchange customers

The liquidator of the Cryptopia exchange hacked early last year, Grant Thornton, has filed a lawsuit in New Zealand.asking to weaken control over the liquidation process in order to expedite it

Since Grant Thornton has been appointedthe liquidator of the Cryptopia cryptocurrency exchange, the company is constantly faced with problems. Last summer, the company found out that Cryptopia did not use individual wallets to store cryptocurrencies of customers, and in October called on developers to help return stolen tokens.

Grant Thornton is now facing newdifficulties. The liquidator cannot determine whether the balances that Cryptopia showed on the customer accounts coincide with the balances of the hot and cold wallets of the exchange. Judging by the published information, the liquidators appealed to the New Zealand court with a request to help them expedite the process.

The liquidator of the exchange noted that he was forced to carry out a “matching process” to establish real numbers, and this would take a very long time. The published document says:

“Waiting for completion of the reconciliation process maysignificantly extend the resolution of the problems set forth in the Appendix, and the final distribution of funds among creditors and beneficiaries. There is no exact data on how long the matching process will take. ”

In this regard, Grant Thornton requests that the courtrefused to constantly monitor the process for the benefit of victims of Cryptopia. The court has not yet announced its decision, but the protracted liquidation of the exchange may prompt the authorities to accept the Grant Thornton proposal.

At the beginning of last year, the Cryptopia exchange washacked. The platform team confirmed the violation of the security system and stated that the site’s losses were “significant”. Later, the research company Elementus estimated that, as a result of the hack, Cryptopia lost $ 16 million in cryptocurrencies.
