Kazakhstan will launch a national cryptocurrency digital tenge

In the post-Soviet space, some countries have already begun to consider options for launching a nationaldigital currency (CBDC).

Earlier this week it became known that the Bank of Georgia will analyze the consequences of creating a token pegged to the lari. The Central Bank of Russia plans to begin testing the digital ruble as early as 2022.

Kazakhstan began to act in the same direction. The country's central bank published a report through which a discussion was launched on the feasibility of developing a digital version of the tenge.

According to local media, referring to the study of the regulator, CBDC will be the same payment instrument as cash.

The Central Bank's report says:

«National digital currency — Thisthe most promising form of money, presented in electronic form and issued by the National Bank of Kazakhstan. The digital tenge will be used as a means of payment, a measure of value and a store of value.

Before launching a crypto project, the regulator plans to carry out a lot of research work in order to assess all the possible consequences and risks of the appearance of a new instrument on the domestic market.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan will consider options for creating and introducing a token together with local and foreign experts, as well as with participants in the financial market, the authors of the report emphasized.
