Kazakhstan prepares to issue digital tenge

The National Bank of Kazakhstan is developing a platform for testing the new digital tenge. Regulatorhas already published his strategy on this issue, starting the discussion.

The Central Bank has published a strategy for integrating the digital national currency:

Digital tenge – a new, promising type of money that should be issued by the National Bank. This digital currency will be legal tender, a standard of value, and a store of value.

However, the regulator is not going to replace cash or non-cash money. The new currency should be used as an additional financial instrument.

Digital tenge will be available to a wide range of users. Technically, it should work as a token that can be freely moved from one electronic wallet to another.

The National Bank expects that the introduction of the digital tenge will ensure the further development of the national payment system and reduce dependence on cash.
